When considering the characteristics of God what comes to your mind? Do you know where to learn about God’s character? The characteristics of God are found in both God’s word, and in His creation, he formed. Humanly speaking, trying to describe God’s character and God’s love…you would NEVER be able to do it justice this side of eternity.

What Does The Bible Say About The Extraordinary Characteristics of God?

Knowing God’s character gives you discernment. If you don’t understand and know the character of God, how can you know what is being Christ-like and what is not, right?

Characteristics of God include the following:

  1. God is Holy
  2. God is Good
  3. God is Just
  4. God Is Impartial
  5. God is Infinite
  6. God is Patient
  7. God Is Faithful
  8. God is Love

God is Holy

God is holy. The Greek definition of “HOLY” means to be righteous—or to be right. God is righteous. With this in mind, when you know and understand that whatever God does is right, releases you. Why? I found the quote to sum this up perfectly…

God is always right. Whether it feels good to me or not, it’s right. And whether or not I agree with it, He’s right.

Joyce Meyer

God is Good

In many Christian Movies and Christian Podcasts, you will hear the phrase…God is good…all the time—all the time…God is good. No matter what, the fact that God is good, NEVER changes…regardless of your circumstances.

Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him! Psalm 34:8

So, when you are facing challenging times, trusting God through times of uncertainty is crucial. Just remember to read what does the Bible say about trusting God?

Repeat the following phrase, SHOUT IT IF YOU NEED TO!

I may be facing “real-life” struggles…BUT GOD…God is good…all the time—all the time…God is good!

God is Just

What does it mean that God is just?

God is fair to all and he forgives those who say sorry for their actions. The Psalms say God is fair and just. Omniscience – God knows everything.

As a follower of Jesus Christ, you believe that God knows every person’s inner thoughts as well as knowing all that has happened and all that will happen in the future.

Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne; steadfast love and faithfulness go before you. Psalm 89:14

God is Impartial

“God shows no partiality” of one individual over another. In other words, in God’s eyes, we are all the same. Knowing this should bring unity in a divided nation, right? Read what the Bible says about unity in diversity to gain a better understanding.

So Peter opened his mouth and said: “Truly I understand that God shows no partiality. Acts 10:34

But in every nation, anyone who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him. Acts 10:35

But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you. Matthew 5:44

So that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. Matthew 5:45

For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? Matthew 5:46

God is Infinite

The God of the Universe is infinite which means He is limitless and has no boundaries. I want to list a few scriptures that back this statement up.

But will God indeed dwell on the earth? Behold, heaven, and the highest heaven cannot contain you; how much less this house that I have built! 1 Kings 8:27

Thus says the Lord: “Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool; what is the house that you would build for me, and what is the place of my rest? Isaiah 66:1

All these things my hand has made, and so all these things came to be, declares the Lord. But this is the one to whom I will look: he who is humble and contrite in spirit and trembles at my word. Isaiah 66:2

Can you find out the deep things of God? Can you find out the limit of the Almighty? Job 11-7

It is higher than heaven what can you do? Deeper than Sheol—what can you know? Job 11:8

Its measure is longer than the earth and broader than the sea. Job 11:9

God is Patient

Now, I don’t know about you but God continuously shows me more patience than I will EVER deserve. What about you? Think back to times in your life when God was being patient with you. Can you see God at work behind the scenes?

God is Faithful

Has anyone EVER let you down? Silly question, right? We have ALL had someone let us down at one point or another in our lives.

How do I know this?

Humans are flawed and eventually will disappoint you and let you down. Now, that said, God is the ONLY one who has proven His faithfulness, time and time again, no matter how badly we mess up.

That’s the good news of having a relationship with God. Knowing the importance of walking with God in everyday life displays how God is patient with you.

God is Love

The ultimate love is God’s love. Do you know God sent His one and only Son to die a death on the rugged Roman Cross for you? What does the death of Jesus on the Cross mean for you? What does the Bible say about God’s love for us?

God loves all His children, that said, however, many are atheists and deny the existence of God. That said, God’s love also gives you the free will to choose to return His love.

Who is a God like you, pardoning iniquity and passing over transgression for the remnant of his inheritance? He does not retain his anger forever, because He delights in steadfast love. Micah 7:18

He will again have compassion on us; he will tread our iniquities underfoot. You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea. Micah 7:19

So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. 1 John 4:16

Bible Verses About God’s Character in the Bible

For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. John 3:17

But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. John 14:6

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. Hebrews 13:8

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. James 1:17

This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. 1 John 1:5

But whoever keeps his word, in him truly the love of God is perfected. By this, we may know that we are in him. 1 John 2:5

And we know that for those who love God, all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control; against such things, there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23

He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high. Hebrews 1:3

Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love. 1 John 4:8

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9

For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome. 1 John 5:3

All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness. 2 Timothy 3:16
