Are you facing an unplanned pregnancy and don’t know where to turn to? Are you considering having an abortion because you may be scared to face it alone? Have you wondered What does the Bible say about abortion?

Scripture is clear on the preservation of life. Abortion is a very sensitive, touchy, political, and controversial topic, so I’m writing this post out of love and with the best intentions.

Having said this do you understand that God “our creator” is the giver and taker of life…NOT MAN! Does this mean you’re exempt from God’s grace and forgiveness if you have had an abortion?

Absolutely NOT!

The only unforgivable sin is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. However, I will state this bluntly…I would not want to be the individual standing before God on judgment day having performed abortions if he or she does not repent of this Sin!

Allow me to make something as abundantly clear as possible and in a nonjudgemental and loving way…ALL human life is sacred in the eyes of God. The bible is clear that life begins at the moment of conception.

Now with that said, I realize that many women will find themselves in an unplanned pregnancy, but I want you to be aware of what does the Bible say about abortion?

What Does the Bible say about abortion?

First and foremost, I am by no means judging anyone, “this is in God’s hands alone” but “from my Christian perspective” unplanned pregnancy or not, does not make it right to consider abortion.

I 100% hate controversy and (anyone who knows me personally knows this) and I do everything in my power to separate myself from it as much as humanly possible.

Now I’m not nieve enough to assume some people will completely disagree with my opinion of abortion and that’s ok. I will still show you love as Jesus Christ shows love. I am certain that many will argue the fact that abortion is justifiable due to the following reasons…

  • Health Risks
  • Rape
  • Incest

I know many women who have been raped, regardless of this fact, they either kept their baby or allowed a couple to adopt. In my eyes, other options are available. Please check out Choices4Life for more information.

Sadly, the media is constantly bombarding women with other “options” and “routes” they can go with but I want to point you to the one and only true source that really matters above all else…God’s word!

Unplanned pregnancy and prolife

Sweet friend, you may be wondering how in the wonder did the topic of abortion come across “Angie’s radar?” In all honesty, God! I hadn’t planned on writing a post about this…not even close.

I usually steer clear of any controversial topics such as this. However, God has placed this burden in my heart so strongly I simply can’t ignore it!

My husband and I recently watched a movie that I’ve been wanting to see. I already knew it was a true story based on the life of Abby Johnson.

I wanted to try and understand the mentality of women on why they’d choose abortion to begin with. Before we get into what does the bible say about abortion it’s important to understand the following also…

  • What is the definition of abortion?
  • When did abortion start?
  • When did abortion become legal?

I know it’s common today to think of abortion as a simple answer to an inconvenient problem but it is actually a far more serious issue. Your child isn’t simply a mass of tissue; he or she is a human being in God’s eyes – Billy… Click To Tweet

What is the definition of abortion? Source: Wikipedia

The practice of abortion—the termination of a pregnancy—has been known since ancient history. Various methods have been used to perform or attempt an abortion, including the administration of abortifacient herbs, the use of sharpened implements, the application of abdominal pressure, and other techniques.

When did abortions start? SOURCE: WIKIPEDIA

Though the physicians’ campaign against abortion began in the early 1800s, little progress was made in the United States until after the Civil War. The English law on abortion was first codified in legislation under sections 1 and 2 of Malicious Shooting or Stabbing Act 1803.

When did abortion become legal?

January 1973. In deciding Roe v. Wade in January 1973, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that restrictive state abortion laws were unconstitutional, thereby legalizing induced abortion throughout the country.

WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY ABOUT ABORTION?

Why do Christians oppose abortion?

Now I can only speak for myself. However, as was previously stated life is sacred. As Christians, it’s our duty to protect the lives of an unborn child.

In regards to the movie let me begin by saying Unplanned is a beautiful redemption story of God’s grace, redemption, and forgiveness.

This being said, however, I didn’t realize how much this movie would impact my own life. Now, first and foremost, I would NEVER EVER consider an abortion regardless of the reason…Period!

To me, abortion is against God’s will and plan, and killing a precious life given as a gift from God!

I’m sorry if this offends anyone! It’s not my intention to do so and I love you! Having said this, it bears repeating that God has placed this burden in my spirit to write about what does the bible say about abortion?

I don’t want to be silent when I know this may reach someone to decide PROLIFE is a God-honoring decision.

Too many people use abortion as a form of birth control. And that’s very wrong. I could never, ever have an abortion.—Brooke Shields #prolife Click To Tweet

Sweet friends, as I sat there watching this movie with my husband I was cringing and bawling like a baby. Ignorance more often than not can be bliss y’all, just saying.

The fact of the matter is I’ve avoided things of this nature. The thoughts of a baby being taken willingly when we lost our little one is difficult.

I knew the process wasn’t gonna be pretty or anything of the sort, but my word! After the abortion scene where Abby went from seeing the baby moving to be obliterated in a blink of an eye.

I told Mike that I had no clue it would be that hard to watch. His reply, “What were you expecting?” I said, NOT THAT!!!”

The sad part is it was probably downplaying the actual reality of the procedure. I can not fathom it. We lost our first grandchild to SIDS at 4 1/2 months old…to witness how a baby is removed from the womb like a vacuum cleaner…I broke down.

Ladies, do you know there are other options and resources available instead of abortion? Numerous couples are unable to conceive a child who would consider it a privilege, honor, and joy to adopt your baby. Please just think about it.

What does the bible say about abortion due to a predetermined disability or deformity?

Mike and I have friends that (according to their ultrasound) knew their baby was going to have abnormalities the parents decided to keep their baby.

The parents were told their baby would not have a “real life” and kept pushing them to abort. Not only this, but the Dr’s told them their baby would not live past 11 minutes to be exact.

However, I am thrilled to tell you that they both refused to consider abortion. In their eyes, as well as mine, it’s not something they would ever consider.

Our friends were determined to give their baby the best life (whatever time that may be) and cherish every moment God blessed them with.

The child lived way past the 11 minutes the Dr gave them. It was recently that their precious child lost His life at the age of 11.

I can not begin to tell you the numerous lives that were changed because His Mommy and Daddy refused to give up and do what the Dr’s wanted then too.

  • Was the child’s life hard? Yes
  • Did the child suffer? Yes
  • Was the child’s life worth living? Yes
  • Did the child’s life impact others? Absolutely, and he still is!

Woe to him who strives with him who formed him, a pot among earthen pots!
Does the clay say to him who forms it, ‘What are you making?’ or ‘Your work has no handles’? Isaiah 45:9

Woe to him who says to a father, ‘What are you begetting?’ or to a woman, ‘With what are you in labor?’” Isaiah 45:10

Thus says the Lord, the Holy One of Israel, and the one who formed him: “Ask me of things to come; will you command me concerning my children and the work of my hands? Isaiah 45:9

If you have had an abortion will God extend forgiveness? What does the bible say about this?

In him, we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace. Ephesians 1:7

I am he who blots out your transgressions for my own sake, and I will not remember your sins. Isaiah 43:25

At my church, there’s a woman who I admire for her bravery. She shares her experience with abortion and is now an advocate for prolife.

God has done an amazing and powerful thing in her life and she shares her redemption story on her blog titled Clean. It’s a must-read sweet friend.

There is hope after abortion through the saving grace of Jesus Christ. He extends mercy, forgiveness and redemption through His blood sacrifice on the Roman rugged cross. All you have to do is simply repent and ask to receive it.

As a Christian how should you approach others that stand for Prochoice when you are prolife?

What would Jesus do?

In closing on what does the bible say about abortion? WWJD?

WWJD: What Would Jesus Do?

To start with, as Christians, we are supposed to model Jesus Christ’s love and compassion to everyone. We must show His love and let the women know we care about them and their unborn babies.

Simply stated…Don’t lose our tempers! If we feel anger starting to take over…Pray or walk away.

Secondly, the best advice I can give is to continue to be a living testimony that’s hard to deny. Don’t be afraid to be open and honest where you stand on prolife.

If you don’t know what to say or how to say it, go before the throne of grace on bended knees and pray for God to give you both the wisdom and words to speak when the opportunity arises.

  1. Oh Angie
I have been wrestling with this topic. Let me explain, abortion is wrong. I read how abortion became law. Billy Graham, Jerry Falwell, James Dobson, wanted women to have a right to choose. Billy Graham said, he was for abortion for rape, incensed, and the life of the Mother.
After two years abortion after abortion was made into law, Jerry Falwell, James Dobson, wanted to refuse it. It has become a political issue ever since. There are so many republicans have abortion along with Democratic’s. Republicans never want to overturn abortion. There have been many times they were able too. Also, if abortion was outlawed, it would not stop women from getting an abortion. These women would go back to the coat hanger, which many women either lost a lot of blood or died. Many women are judge by the church, rejected from family. Plan Parenthood is wrong to do abortions. That is not helping women plan what is best for Mother and Child. When I was in the Hospital ready to have my baby, there was a woman who had just delivered hers. She had to leave after an hour giving birth to her baby, for she had no heath insurance. It was a bitter cold winter day. After she left with her new born, she was able to go to the ER, where they could treat her and her new born. The Emergency room cannot turn people away who don’t have heath insurance. Heath care is so expensive,, many single Moms can not afford it. Many cannot care for their unborn child. I struggle with these issues. We need health care in our Country, where everyone can afford it. Where everyone can afford their medicine. I wonder if churches would open their doors for these women, take them under their wings, that they are able to keep there baby, or put them up for adoption. This is a moral issue, not a political one. I was at work when a 17 year old said she was pregnant. Her boy friend was pushing hard for her to have an abortion. I told her she had options, but, she ended up making abortion her choice. Her boyfriend pressured her till she gave in. So many people die for they cannot afford health care. Nobody should have to die. I wish Billy Graham, Jerry Falwell, and James Dobson, never got involved saying women have a fight to choose.

    1. Hello Julie,
Thank you so very much for reaching out to me. I understand what you mean about healthcare being an issue for many. I work at an oncology office as a Phlebotomist and I see issues every day where insurance and money play a huge role. I get it. Thank you for bringing it to my attention about those who say in certain “situations” make abortion ok that you listed. I honestly had no clue about this. I want to clearly state that I do NOT agree with their thinking on this issue. In my opinion, nothing makes abortion “right” regardless of how the conception took place, and to be honest I am surprised to hear that they do. I highly respected them and saddened to hear this. Thank you so much for your feedback and support and I pray that I did this topic justice.

  2. I grew up in a place where being pro-life automatically meant you were a narrow-minded person that was angry. That’s all I knew growing up. I’d see people on the corner with signs of pictures too frightening for a young 5-year-old for me to see, yelling at cars driving by, like we did something.

Now I am starting to see that most people do it from a place of God’s love. And that’s exactly what you did here, Angie. You didn’t judge anyone, but showed us so many beautiful verses about what God says about the topic. Thank you for being willing to lead people to God’s word.

    1. Thank you so much, Jessie. Your feedback means so very much to me! God laid this topic on my heart so strongly. In all honesty, I was scared that I wouldn’t be sensitive enough, loving enough, and I most definitely didn’t want to come across as being judgemental. I appreciate your kind words sweetie.
