As a Christian, would you know what to say to an atheist if you were ever been approached by one? Would you know how to respond to an atheist? I suppose the bigger question would be is how do you witness to an atheist as a follower of Jesus Christ, or how to share the gospel with an atheist? Tough questions, right? Will you be prepared?

The scripture below should knock every person off the pedestal you have yourself on, shouldn’t it? you can think you are so self-righteous and this scripture tells you just how wrong your thinking is, doesn’t it?

As a born-again believer in Jesus Christ, one thing all Christians struggle with is talking with someone who is not just an unbeliever but is an Atheist. An Atheist doesn’t believe in God…PERIOD! End of Story!

What Is The Definition Of An Atheist?

The definition of an atheist is a person who disbelieves or lacks belief in the existence of God.  Atheism, in the broadest sense, is an absence of belief in the existence of deities.

Less broadly, atheism is a rejection of the belief that any deities exist. In an even narrower sense, atheism is specifically the position that there are no deities

So if you’re wondering what to say to an atheist you are not alone. Trust me I get it. However, the one thing I know for certain is you must make sure you deliver the love of God if you find yourself in this situation.

Are you prepared for Hell if you are wrong?

Both Heaven and Hell are REAL! In many cases, you will simply and calmly say…Ok, if I am wrong and you are right what have I lost…NOTHING because I have my eternal reward in Heaven!

Now, if I am right and you are wrong what have you lost? You will receive eternal damnation in Hell in the Lake of Fire FOREVER!

Eternity is something Atheists do NOT believe in. However, you should show them God’s love as he has freely shown and given to you.

You need to see them the same as every other person made in the image of God. God created all, God Loves all, and you are called to do the same!

How Do You Witness To An Atheist?

Both of these questions are very thought-provoking questions, right? I’m gonna be honest I was so not prepared when I came face to face with what to say to an atheist!

Sharing the gospel with an atheist shouldn’t be any different than sharing with any individual, right? Wrong thinking on my part and I’m so naive. I have NEVER encountered an Atheist before but that changed recently.

During our conversation, every time I asked a question concerning God and faith they counteracted with a response that I had trouble answering.

I am always open about my faith with those around me. Needless to say, within a short time frame, God usually comes up in a conversation.

How to respond to an atheist when they are uncomfortable around you?

When I met this particular individual I could tell they were extremely uncomfortable around me. I’m sure it was the presence of the Holy Spirit that they were feeling and it bothered them.

“Have we met before at work perhaps?”

1. He said I have no beliefs because I do not believe in God but if you can provide me with solid proof maybe I would believe.
2. He said he believes in God just not “MY GOD.”
3. He said he believes in and trusts science, whereas I have faith and my faith is living blind.
4. He said he believes he has good morals without God, therefore, why does he need God?

It broke my heart Friends.

He saw a photo of Tyler nearby and I could see the questions starting to form. I told him it was my grandson Tyler and the loss of a child to SID’S at 4 1/2 months old with the hope we have in Christ to see him again one day.

Questions The Atheists asked

1. Why did God take your innocent grandson away from you, yet he lets rapists and murderers live?

“I don’t have an answer for that. God is giver and taker of life and he has a reason behind all he allows to happen.” I can tell you that Tyler has not only changed my life but he’s also still impacting those around me and his short-lived life meant something! Not only that, but I have the hope and assurance with my faith in God that I will see him again one day!

“We live in a fallen world where evil is taking place every day.” People have free will and they CHOOSE to do the evil things they do. I also said, in my opinion, I don’t believe in someone being taken away too soon.

In all honesty, when it comes to the question of how to share the gospel with an atheist it’s no different than sharing with a nonbeliever, right?

1. Treat them with Respect

How do we show love and respect for atheists? In all honesty, we shouldn’t treat them any differently than we would anyone else. In other words, show them respect and get to know them.

Who knows, God could be using YOU as a tool to plant a seed. Witnessing an atheist is all about showing the love of Jesus Christ and less about what to say to an atheist.

2. Be prepared to answer their questions…Remember it’s not a debate

Your goal should not be debating with Atheists but to show them the love of Jesus Christ. As born-again believers in Jesus Christ, your hope is they will accept Jesus as Lord and savior.

Your job is to tell them about Jesus. You can’t save them only God can do the saving. You plant the seeds!

The Holy Spirit can penetrate the hardest of hearts and that includes atheists!

As Christians, it’s hard for you to comprehend and accept that someone who has raped or murdered someone, can be forgiven. In truth, those sins aren’t any different than telling a lie or stealing. To God, Sin is Sin!

A Final Plea For All Atheists

Whether YOU choose to believe in God’s existence or not it won’t change the fact that God is real! God loves you! God sent His one and only Son, to bear His wrath in your place so you can have eternal life apart from Hell.

I want you to know you have hope in Christ for eternal salvation. That being said, do you have a choice to make Heaven or Hell?

You need to keep n mind that you are called by God to share the love of Jesus Christ and that includes atheists. God loves them as much as He does you. Remember, it is up to GOD to do the Convicting, Saving and Judging. One thing I want to share with someone who does NOT believe in God is this.
