God Is Our Refuge And Strength: A Simple Look Into Psalm 46

Do you know God is our refuge and strength when life is hard? Yet we’re told in God’s word not to be anxious about anything. In reality, life can be extremely hard when you’re in long seasons of difficulties. Anxiety wreaks havoc on your mind and soul. A testimony on Psalm 46.

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. Philippians 4:6

When you have your back against the wall and the road before you seems unending, it can take its toll on you. That being said, this is when you have to really be in God’s word and trust him wholeheartedly. God is our refuge and strength!

I don’t want to repeat the story of my health issues, but if you’ve not checked out the challenges of autoimmune diseases, you can do that when you have time.

First, What is the Biblical meaning of Refuge?

To take refuge is to find a safe place. You might take refuge under a bridge in a hail storm or a basement during a tornado.

Yes, we MUST use our heads in this scenario. That being said, however, as a disciple of Christ, we know God is our refuge, and strength is found in Him alone

Refuge comes from a French word meaning “to flee,” and, in most cases, a refuge is a place to flee from unsafe people or places. Do you see how God is our refuge and strength?

How Can We Trust God Is Our Refuge and Strength?

Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. Proverbs 3:5

We Can Bear Our Hearts Before Him

God longs to hear from His Children! He also wants you and me to bear our hearts before Him, lay our requests at His feet, and, above all else, trust Him, knowing completely that God is our refuge and strength!

When we take refuge in something physical, we trust it will take care of us and make us feel safe and secure. When we take refuge in God, we offer God’s trust to him instead.

You Can Seek Shelter in God’s Strength and Character

I’m naming today’s appointment, which was DREADED DOOMSDAY! I know what you’re thinking: Please pick another name! See, sweet friend, I have an appointment to see a surgeon for my foot today, Monday, October 16, 2017.

A long story short, I’ve been receiving treatment for this issue for over a year with no success in healing. If anything, it’s gotten worse! That alone can shake your faith. What’s needed at this time is prayer.

I was told they believe it’s a form of Verrucous Carcinoma.

You know God is Your Fortress In All Things

I work in a cancer clinic, and I see these kinds of issues firsthand and know what to look for. When you receive treatment after treatment with no change whatsoever, it can make you somewhat weary and discouraged.

I have been told by two different doctors they have done ALL they know to do for me! The appointment on Monday will be for the third doctor for this same issue.

To say this is frustrating and painful is putting it mildly. Every time I take a step, it rubs that area.

For the past couple of weeks, this weekend has been the worst; Satan’s lies have waged a war in my mind and have tried to make me doubt the very goodness of God. How can God be our refuge and strength when we go through these things?

In Christ, You have victory over Satan’s lies

Know this above all else, sweet friend: We can always trust that God has our backs no matter the circumstances surrounding us.

May we NEVER forget that Jesus defeated Sin, death, and the grave, and we have victory in Him!

That being said, also be aware that the lies of the devil will bombard us because we are living a life to glorify God! Satan tried to deceive Jesus, and we are fooling ourselves if we don’t think he will try the same tricks on us!

Satan is always on the prowl, seeking someone to devour.

Satan’s lies over my autoimmune issues.

  1. If your God Loves you so much, why isn’t he making this go away?
  2. God must NOT Love you enough!
  3. If your God is so good, why is he allowing you to remain in pain?
  4. He must NOT care about you!
  5. Does God realize how painful this procedure is going to be for you?
  6. God doesn’t love or care about you!
  7. You should give up!

My life may not be perfect, but I’m in a better place than I was as a non-Christian. God loves and cares for me and will ALWAYS be there for me!

No matter what health issues I face, my God will ALWAYS be there for me! I may not understand God’s ways, but his ways are far better than mine!

You Know safety and Shelter Is Found In God Alone

Taking refuge is simply a place of safety and shelter where we are protected from danger. Another illustration of refuge is seeking shelter, where we take cover during a storm.

In Old Testament times, a cleft in a rock or cave was a good refuge. In modern times, we seek shelter underground.

A good refuge provides protection for the vulnerable and for those seeking peace. God is exactly the kind of refuge that He is to those who trust in Him as Lord and His Son, Jesus Christ, who is our shelter.
