Have you wondered what does loving God with all your heart look like? As Christians, we speak about how we love God wholeheartedly, but do we really?

Do you really love the Lord with all your heart? This means: do you love God above any other person that’s in your life? Do you love God more than any object?

I want you to search the depths of your heart and think about what your response will be to the following question…”Can you say that you love God with your “whole heart” and with all that’s within you?”

What Does loving God with all your heart even mean? The Bible says…

And he said to him, You shall love the Lord your God, with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. Matthew 22:37-38

What Does Loving God with All Your Heart Look Like?

Let’s dive into this. Now really search your heart and soul to find an honest answer. We read lots of scriptures on love, especially in the “love chapter” Corinthians 13 but do we love God like that?

Whatever is inside your heart God already knows because nothing is hidden from God.

God knows us better than we know ourselves. When I search my own heart to these questions and finding myself convicted as I’m writing.

Lord, reveal to us, what may be hidden within our hearts or what we want to ignore and push aside.

Loving God with all your heart means to love God with your entire being. Truly loving God with all your heart means at all times.

To put it another way, I mean to love God even when it seems he’s a million miles away even though he never is. God doesn’t leave our side.

Love the Lord with all your heart means to love Him even when your prayers aren’t answered as you hoped they’d be. Continue to love the Lord when he says yes, no, and/or wait.

Last but not least continue to love God even though bad things are happening and your circumstances remain unchanging.

Being married is a true blessing from God. However, we aren’t to love our husbands more than we love God. If we aren’t careful, our husband can become an Idol for us.

Ask yourself who you look to for your identity, acceptance, direction, and self-worth. Is it your husband or is it God? If your husband is the first thing that comes to your mind then that’s NOT loving God and putting him first.

Our children and grandchildren need us to guide and direct them. As Mothers, that’s our job but are you putting your children or grandchildren and their needs before your relationship with Christ?

Do you seek fulfillment through your children instead of being fulfilled by God?

Anyone we love and cherish more than God is not loving God the way he deserves and that is with our whole heart friends.

Anything we look to for fulfillment and spend a great deal of our time investing in, focusing on, relying on, and putting all our trust in, that isn’t placing our love and affection where we need to.

Loving God with all your heart means having an eternal focus

What do you spend your time doing unnecessarily? Could you be spending your time with God instead? Are you loving God with all your heart the way he deserves?

Is it too much time devoted to a hobby or TV program perhaps? I could list more but you know what’s in your heart the same as I know what’s in mine.

All God asks of us is to LOVE him with our whole hearts and put him front and center in our lives.

God doesn’t want what’s leftover at the end of the day when we are so exhausted, we can’t give him our undivided attention, without things distracting us.

Sometimes it is just ourselves. We are shackled by guilt or dealing with other things.

You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me. Exodus 20:5

How should you love the Lord with all your heart?

Let’s talk about King David, one of the greatest men in the bible. No one is Immune to making Mistakes and King David made many just like you and I.

But one thing was evident and that was his LOVE for the Lord. David’s downfall came from wanting Bathsheba.

But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart. Matthew 5:28

See Friends, even though David Loved God the way he should have, but he still had a sinful nature the same as you and I. His poor choice with Bathsheba didn’t make him stop loving God wholeheartedly, however.

It happened, late one afternoon, when David arose from his couch and was walking on the roof of the king’s house, that he saw from the roof a woman bathing, and the woman was very beautiful.

And David sent and inquired about the woman. And one said, “Is not this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?”

So David sent messengers and took her, and she came to him, and he lay with her. (Now she had been purifying herself from her uncleanness.) Then she returned to her house.  And the woman conceived, and she sent and told David, “I am pregnant.”

Even though you love the Lord with all your heart…We mess up

Granted some messes are messier than others. But when we confess our sins God is faithful to forgive us. The powerful thing is, that God will still use us even after our mistakes for HIS Glory.

There is NOT a single person that God EVER created that hasn’t messed up. We all have done something, at some point or another, we wish we could erase, and take back.

There are no do overs

Don’t you wish that certain bad choices we have made in our lifetime, had a do-over button? We all know life doesn’t work that way though. Just remember it is okay for you to make mistakes but do not let your mistakes define who you are in Christ.

Also, don’t allow Satan to convince you that because of your mistakes God won’t Love you and you aren’t worthy enough to Love him with the kind of love God commands us to have.

And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David to be their king; to whom also he gave their testimony, and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfill all my will. Acts 13:22

King David’s story is a beautiful reminder for us all Friends. Even though King David “messed up” royally, he still found favor with God and Loved him with his whole heart.

Oh how I want to be the woman after God’s heart like David, don’t you? I did a lot of research on how David was a man after God’s own heart and found the following key points along with scriptures.

What are the 10 Characteristics of DAVID’S LOVE FOR THE LORD that we should model?

Surely men of low degree are vanity, and men of high degree are a lie: to be laid in the balance, they are altogether lighter than vanity. Psalm 62:9

Have mercy upon me, O Lord, for I am in trouble: mine eye is consumed with grief, yea, my soul and my belly. Psalm 31:9

The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? Psalm 27:1

I will love thee, O Lord, my strength. Psalm 18:1

Thou hast put gladness in my heart, more than in the time that their corn and their wine increased. Psalm 4:7

I will praise you, O Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonders. Psalm 9:1

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Psalm 23:6

Give me understanding, and I shall keep thy law; yea, I shall observe it with my whole heart. Psalm 119:34

For thy name’s sake, O Lord, pardon mine iniquity; for it is great. Psalm 25:11

I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies. Psalm 18:3
