What Does the Bible Say About Your Identity in Christ?

I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. Psalm 139:14

I have a confession that I want to share with you. In the verse, I listed above do have doubts about believing these about yourself?

As you look in the mirror to see your reflection do you struggle to believe you are beautiful and wonderfully made? I am not just meaning outward appearance I’m also referring to who you are in general.

Below is a list of identities that tell a story of who (as a woman may be) personally. How would you describe yourself?

  • Wife
  • Mother
  • Daughter
  • Grandmother
  • Sister
  • Aunt
  • Niece

identity in Christ Meaning: Source-Desiring God

Christian selfhood is not defined in terms of who you are in and of yourself. It’s defined in terms of what God does for you the relationship he creates with you and the destiny he appoints for you.

God made us who we are so we could make known who he is. Our identity is for the sake of making known his identity.

Where Is Your Identity?

As a woman, in general, you are very critical when it comes to your identity. You are forever comparing yourself to other women which is something I know you should not do! Here is a list of at least 10 negative ways you see yourself. How do I know this? I feel them too.

  1. Worthless
  2. Rejected
  3. Unworthy
  4. Wretched
  5. Unqualified
  6. Shameful
  7. Undeserving
  8. Unsuitable
  9. Damaged
  10. Ugly

Not a very good way to identify ourselves, is it? Do you see yourself in these categories? Have you lived a lifetime of shame due to sexual abuse of some kind? Is being a victim of sexual abuse how you would identify yourself?

Have you used drugs or alcohol as a way to identify who you are? Is that how you want to continue identifying yourself?

Maybe you lived a life that involved physical abuse. If so, I can relate to that. I do NOT want to continue seeing my identity as a victim of abuse anymore.

I experienced almost 15 years in a marriage of abuse and I still carry those emotional wounds and scars to this day.

When I married my husband now Mike I didn’t know how to receive the love he was showing me. God knew what I needed for sure.

Before I found my identity in Christ I had no Peace or Joy in my life. I felt condemned all the time and I blamed myself for EVERY bad choice in my life and felt I didn’t deserve God’s love which led to having NO self-worth.

Without my identity in Christ, I stayed burned-out, worn-out, miserable, and frustrated, with who I was, and what I allowed my identity to be in.

  3. Race
  4. Politics
  5. Marital Status
  6. Religion
  7. Age
  8. Hobbies
  9. Economic Status
  10. Ability or Disability

Do You Know Your Identity In Christ?

I want you to realize the most significant identity you can EVER describe yourself to be as a Son or Daughter of the King of Kings and Lord and Lords.

Jesus Christ is the only way, you will ever find your true worth and identity. Anything apart from Christ will leave you feeling dissatisfied and empty. You are complete in Christ alone!

In Christ, you have a “new identity” as a child of God. You are sons and daughters, who have been forgiven and awakened, to the fear of the Lord, and know that your identity is in Christ alone.

Are You Aware Your Identity In Christ Makes You Adopted Children Of God?

Do you know that God redeemed you with the blood of his own only perfect begotten Son so that you could claim your identity in Christ?

Your identity in Christ has given you direct access to our Heavenly Father. If we ever doubt who we are in Christ we can cry out to God!

Identity In Christ Verses

For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. Romans 8:14

For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” Romans 8:15

God is the one who determines who you are! If ONLY you could just see yourself as God does! You are God’s beloved children. I’m so thankful for that, aren’t You?

If you aren’t seeking your identity in Christ alone, then you are seeking it from something else. As long as you recognize your identity in Christ alone, you won’t get lost in seeking the empty things that this world can offer you.

Jesus Christ gives us eternal hope in a world of unstable hopelessness.

Do Not Love The World

Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 1 John 2:15

For all that is in the world the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life is not from the Father but is from the world.  1 John 2:16

And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever. 1 John 2:17

Satan Doesn’t Want You To Realize Your Identity In Christ

NO! He Doesn’t. Lies of the devil are deceiving. Satan Loves to get in your minds and have you doubt who you are in God because that’s what he’s good at! Satan wants you to doubt your value and identity in God!

Satan knows if he can control who you perceive yourself to be he can control how you live, speak, and think, and keep you bound in chains of doubt, on how you see yourself, Satan planted seeds of doubt from the beginning in God’s word.

Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, You shall not eat of every tree of the garden?” Genesis 3:1

However, Jesus Christ is the protector of our identity the rescuer of our souls, and the One who overcomes! To fight Satan’s lies about who we are we must guard ourselves with God’s Word the only place to discover our true identity in Christ!
