BIBLE VERSES ABOUT ENVY AND JEALOUSY

As a woman, do the following things ever cross your mind? ”I wish I had…her look, her ability, or her talent?” It can be so hard not to fall into the comparison trap which can quickly escalate into envy v jealousy if you aren’t careful.

Now, I know where these thoughts come from…the lies of Satan. The devil puts seeds of doubt in your mind about your identity and you’ll start feeling jealous of another individual. Satan also wants you to question your identity in Christ. Again, Do Not Listen.

You shouldn’t play the comparison game where you become jealous of another Sister in Christ right? All women like to think they don’t but is this a true statement? Remember, you’re identity is in Christ alone.

Now, I can only speak for myself but I would be lying if I said I haven’t experienced envy and jealousy at times in my life. That’s why it’s crucially important to keep bible verses about envy v jealousy close by for reference.

What does Webster’s Dictionary say about Envy V Jealousy?

The other element and the one that makes envy bad is that the desire is tinged with resentment that it’s going well for the other person and not for you. That’s what makes it envious.

Envy has an element of desire in it. Somebody has experienced an advantage or benefit in life, and you want that to happen to you. That doesn’t necessarily make you envious, however, because that kind of desire is okay when you’re drawn to imitate saintly people.

So in simple terms, envy is having a desire for something you want that another person has. You feel resentment towards that person who is enjoying whatever it is you are wanting also.

Next comes thoughts flooding your mind. You start thinking things aren’t going so well for me but things are going well for them, and it drives you crazy sometimes.

You begin to question why it goes so well for others when it doesn’t seem to for me.

Does this sound familiar to you? I know it does to me. One of my biggest is I absolutely loved leading the choir and now that my hearing is so messed up I can’t do so.

The music is too loud and I can’t hear through the earpiece. I do NOT want to feel envious but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t from time to time.

Where Does Jealousy Stem From?

  1. Possessiveness
  2. Low confidence
  3. Low self-esteem
  4. Comparing yourself to others

Do You Have Social Media Envy?

Social media is everywhere and we can become envious of the places our “friends” get to go and do whereas we may not be able to do them for various reasons. Be happy for them! Use social media to encourage one another with the words you type.

For this reason, let’s choose to be happy for them instead of getting jealous of them and start playing the comparison game which often causes you to spiral down in your spiritual life.

Trust me when I say I have been there and done that…Not a good path to go down at all!

10 Quotes on Envy and Jealousy

Jealousy is, I think, the worst of all faults because it makes a victim of both parties.

Anger, resentment, and jealousy don’t change the heart of others – it only changes yours.

Like hatred, jealousy is forbidden by the laws of life because it is essentially destructive.

The jealous are troublesome to others, but a torment to themselves.

Life is one big road with lots of signs. So when you riding through the ruts, don’t complicate your mind. Flee from hate, mischief and jealousy. Don’t bury your thoughts, put your vision to reality. Wake Up and Live!

Nothing is more capable of troubling our reason, and consuming our health, than secret notions of jealousy in solitude.

Jealousy is when you count someone else’s blessings instead of your own.

Jealousy… is a mental cancer.

Never underestimate the power of jealousy and the power of envy to destroy. Never underestimate that.

I think it’s important to get your surroundings as well as yourself into a positive state – meaning surround yourself with positive people, not the kind who are negative and jealous of everything you do.
