A worship pastor’s story on the heart of worship.

Why You Must Be Worshipping God From A Pure Heart Of Worship

Janson, our worship pastor, said we’re gonna do things a bit differently today. He went on to say as a Church family sometimes we get in a bit of a rut.

We come to worship God but much too often we’re just doing this in a repetitive state of mind so we can check off the box so to speak.

He then said today we’re gonna go back about twenty or so years and do some oldie but goodie praise songs.

The Whole Heart of Worship music.

Janson told the story of the who, what, where, when, and why of the song Heart of Worship by Matt Redman.

What Is The Story Behind the Heart Of Worship Song?

The song was written in the late 1990s, born from a period of apathy within Matt’s home church and the congregation was struggling to find meaning in music. The dynamic was missing so the pastor decided he wanted to change that.

To change that, they got rid of the sound system and band for a season and they gathered together with just their voices.

At some point, the Church had lost its way in worship, and the way to get back to the heart of worship would be to strip everything else away. They needed everything gone to see that God is worthy still.

The pastor wanted to remind his church family that they needed to be producers in worship, not just consumers.

The pastor asked the congregation this question…”When you come through the doors on Sunday what are you bringing as your offering to God?”

Janson said the question initially led to some embarrassing silence. But eventually, people began singing and freshly encountered God.

As Janson continued the story he said that over a short period, Matt’s church slowly reintroduced the musicians and sound system.

However, the church had gained a new perspective that worship is all about Jesus and him alone!

See sweet friends, Jesus Christ wants the response from you and me to come from the depths of our souls no matter what our circumstances and settings are.

Our pure Heart of Worship is praising God, knowing He is still worthy to be praised music with our voices only. When the music fades and everything else has been stripped away…This is the heart of our worship!

Heart of Worship Story

Now as I sat there and listened to our worship pastor sharing this story I felt myself under heavy conviction and I want to share with you why that is.

I had written several songs as a new Christian in my much younger days. My first time was when I was just a teenager.

Back then I led the choir and sang solos all the time and my hearing was still 100%.

Today I have a major hearing loss and only have 15% left on my left and I have 30% left on my right. So, to put it bluntly, I can NOT tell how I sound especially when there is a lot of background noise.

I LOVE God’s Sense of Humor & Timing!!

You Can Learn Something About Yourself When You Worship God In Songwriting

The Saturday prior to Sunday’s service I remembered songs that I wrote in 2016. I sang these songs just ME and MY computer…NO music…NO band…etc…

So Saturday the thought to share them on my Facebook Blog page came to mind. Afterward, I was bombarded with doubts and insecurities that I shouldn’t have posted them.

I realize that the seven videos are NOT the best quality but when I shared them on my Facebook page three years ago I received great feedback.

Lies of the Devil bombarded me!

  • You’re gonna look stupid!
  • People are gonna make fun of you!
  • You need to remove them!
  • You are only gonna embarrass yourself!

I almost took them down or rather wanted to hide them from my page timeline but leave them in the video section. Fear of man gets in the way of what the whole point of sharing songs was, to begin with.

Honoring God through “WORSHIP” just ME…NO music…

Now you can understand what the timing of what transpired on Sunday was like for me. I had to repent then and there and ask God to forgive me and say “Thank You God for the reminder…you know I needed that!”

I LOVE the way God works don’t you friends? That is just one of the many reasons that God is worthy! God was NOT finished, however.

My toes were stepped on badly and if you got the impression the songs were convicting enough…You’d be wrong! When Pastor Jon started his sermon I was saying “Really Lord!”

Pastor Jon started a new series today titled: OUR FREEDOM | GOD’S FORGIVENESS…Savor the Sweetness of Forgiveness.

What are the 3 key points to worshipping God in spirit and Truth?

PSALM 32:1-5

1. Be captivated by the blessings of repentance and confession

2. Don’t suffer in silence

3. Acknowledge and confess your sins for forgiveness

Please do NOT get the wrong idea. I have NOT committed adultery against my husband Mike nor do I plan or want to. I have the BEST husband EVER!

But when you read Psalm 32:1-5 (verses are below) you will know this is about King David and what transpired with Bathsheba.

These particular verses are about David bearing the weight of his shame, guilt, and regret and the consequences of his actions. King David paid dearly for his actions both physically and spiritually.

Blessed Are the Forgiven

Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Psalm 32:1

Blessed is the man against whom the Lord counts no iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no deceit. Psalm 32:2

For when I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. Psalm 32:3

For day and night, your hand was heavy upon me; my strength was dried up as by the heat of summer. Selah Psalm 32:4

I acknowledged my sin to you, and I did not cover my iniquity; I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,” and you forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah Psalm 32:5

My pastor used the metaphor of NOT changing the oil in your car…If you do not change the oil in your car it will eventually get filled with muck and gunk and make your engine go bad.

God Wants To Set You Free From Guilt

Everyone has to take their trash out! Can you say OUCH! Pastor Jon went on to say that he believes that there is NO SIN heavier than guilt and shame.

We beat ourselves up over and over again for things God remembers no more. I know I do! This leads to the second part of being heavily convicted during Sunday’s service.

If you have read my testimony you are aware of my almost fifteen years of abusive first marriage.

I have been VERY upfront with you about that time in my life…except for ONE thing. That ONE thing has kept me, a prisoner friend. I can understand how King David felt.

BOUND and SHACKLED! To say I am ashamed is an understatement!

10 factors that can hinder your relationship With God

Pastor Jon gave us ten common reasons believers choose to avoid confessing sin.

  1. Pride
  2. Fear of Man
  3. Hardness of Heart
  4. Deception
  5. Forgetfulness
  6. Minimization of Sin
  7. Rationalizing of Sin
  8. Procrastination
  9. Failure to look intently in the mirror of God’s word
  10. Grow comfortable with unconfessed sin

Mike knows of course because I told him about it not long after we started dating. A few select others know…those closest to me.

They do NOT judge me and tell me that I am NOT to blame but to be honest, I am to be held accountable also regardless of the circumstances surrounding the things that transpired.

I want to be FREE of this guilt and shame and God has placed within my heart the conviction to share what I know I must let it go and be set FREE!

My God is Worthy of Worship and to Worship God, with a pure heart means I must confess it to break it and the hold it has on me!

Below is a short E-Book about the time in my first marriage that will be more in-depth about what I went through during that period.

However, God used that timeframe to mold me into the woman I am today along with the confession I know I need to make.

Please keep me in your Prayer sweet friends, because this is not an easy thing to do. I am already in a battle in this.

Satan is filling my mind with all kinds of scenarios but I want to FINALLY be FREE of this and God made that VERY CLEAR during this service.
