What Does The Bible Say About 4 Simple Qualities Of A Good Steward

When you think of being a good steward for Jesus, what’s the first thing that comes to your mind? More often than not, your minds go straight to money. But the truth is, there’s so much more that goes into being a good steward for Christ. What does the Bible say about being a good steward?

Stewardship in Christianity is doing exactly what 1 Peter 4:10-11 says and the verses are below. This is how you should approach others, when you share how God has changed you, from the inside out.

Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. 1 Peter 4:10

If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power forever and ever. Amen. 1 Peter 4:11

What Does the Bible Say About Being a Good Steward?

In the scriptures, you’ll find many verses that teach followers of Jesus Christ how to be a good steward of all the resources God graciously gives His children. That said, being a good steward is much more than simply tithing alone.

What is the biblical definition of Steward?

Stewardship is a theological belief that humans are responsible for taking care of the world.

In Christian traditions, stewardship refers to the way time, talents, material possessions, or wealth are used or given for the service of God.

What are the qualities of a good steward?

When I researched the qualities of a good steward I found the following characteristics that identify their qualities:

Committed to selfless service

  1. A good steward has no desire for power and does not want to control others.
  2. A good steward takes responsibility and accountability without the need to be prompted or prodded
  3. A good steward practice includes everyone without exclusion and wants everyone to feel welcome.
  4. Good stewards welcome new ideas and fresh perspectives.
  5. Good stewards are team players and are quick to give others credit instead of a “look at what I have done” attitude.
  6. A Good Steward wants to help others reach their goals.

Example of Stewardship in the Bible

God leaves us instructions and a road map to follow in the Bible on being a good steward. One of my favorites is the parable of the good steward.

The Parable of the Talents

For it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted to them his property.

To one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one, to each according to his ability. Then he went away.

He who had received the five talents went at once and traded with them, and he made five talents more.

So also he who had the two talents made two talents more.

But he who had received the one talent went and dug in the ground and hid his master’s money.

Now after a long time, the master of those servants came and settled accounts with them.

And he who had received the five talents came forward, bringing five talents more, saying, ‘Master, you delivered to me five talents; here, I have made five talents more.

His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.

And he also who had the two talents came forward, saying, Master, you delivered to me two talents; here, I have made two talents more.

His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.

He also who had received the one talent came forward, saying, Master, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you did not sow, and gathering where you scattered no seed.

So I was afraid, and I went and hid your talent in the ground. Here, you have what is yours.

But his master answered him, ‘You wicked and slothful servant! You knew that I reap where I have not sown and gather where I scattered no seed?

Then you ought to have invested my money with the bankers, and at my coming, I should have received what was my own with interest.

So take the talent from him and give it to him who has the ten talents.

For to everyone who has will more be given, and he will have an abundance. But from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away.

And cast the worthless servant into the outer darkness. In that place, there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Matthew 25:14-30

What Is Stewardship from a Christian Perspective?

Source: Wikipedia

Christian Stewardship refers to the responsibility that Christians have in maintaining and using wisely the gifts that God has bestowed. God wishes human beings to be his collaborators in the work of creation, redemption, and sanctification.

When you are having your alone time with God do you pray and ask him to use you as a tool to reach the lost broken, and hurting people of this world and how we can be better stewards?

I’d love to think this is a common prayer for all born-again believers. God has gifted all of us in unique ways that can be used to bring Glory to his name.

8 Ways to Be a Good Steward

  1. Employment
  2. Possessions
  3. Friendships
  4. Family
  5. Money
  6. Talents
  7. Faith
  8. Time

How can I be a good steward?

When I was younger I enjoyed singing and leading the choir so much for the simple reason of changing the hearts of God’s people.

Not because I proclaimed to have been a professional or anything of the sort but for me, it was a form of worship from ME to my KING with the hope that others would be moved to worship too.

More often than not when service was over the congregation would seek me out and proceed to share how a particular song would help them in what they were going through. Y’all, that’s what I call a Holy Spirit-moving moment…NOT an Angie thing!

I’m going to be completely honest in saying I miss that part of my life terribly. My hearing loss is so drastic now they would probably pay to remove me from the stage.

It was an honor to know that I was making a difference in their lives. Just knowing that I could help bring someone joy and lift them out of a dark place of despair even for just a moment meant so much to me.

To see the sadness on their face melt away replaced by peace and joy was so rewarding!

Embrace a New Stewardship in CHRISTIANITY

For so long I let the things I “use” to be able to do tell me the things I can’t do today. I thought Ok God the ONE THING I loved doing has been taken from me so now I can’t see myself being used to helping others anymore.

Wrong Thinking! God’s will for your lives will come to pass and you may be prolonging it due to a lack of trust and faith or afraid of failing. You must not let fear keep you from sharing the gospel.

So I prayed, “God, I want to be used by you again?” “I want YOU to use ME to help people, in an even larger way.” “I want to show your LOVE in an even bigger way to those around me and all over the world.

I started out using my personal Facebook to encourage others through faith in Jesus Christ. In my newsfeed, I have seen so much fighting cursing nudity and negativity, etc….the list can go on and on.

I wanted to show how you can have positive and encouraging things and see what a difference it can make. And that’s exactly what I did and received great feedback.

I started getting the sense that God was calling me to do more. Ok, you’re gonna have to make it clear to me what it is you would have me do Lord.

Pray for the direction

I had two friends on the same day say:

“Angie, you should consider doing a blog. “You write thought-provoking content that’s encouraging and inspiring and will help so many people. You can offer words of hope on social media and the internet.”

I said, “As a matter of fact, I prayed and asked God, to make it clear to me, if this was his will for me?” Can you say Bullseye?

Double Blessing of gifts

When I started Resounding His Love I had no idea it would grow so much and reach so many. God is Amazing!! I took something I used as a source of helping others to become so much more. It’s a ministry

Not ONLY that but where I work is another form of ministry. I get to help those who are deathly sick due to hematology and oncology-related health issues. Plus I get to decorate my lab area however I want.

Can you guess what I have it centered on? If you said God related material, you’d be one hundred percent correct.

See friends. I am blessed to use my “work time” and my “personal time” as a ministry to demonstrate God’s love by encouraging others in Christ Jesus. It’s a win! Now it’s your turn:

What does being a good steward mean for you?

Do you use your life, to reach others for God’s glory in being a good steward? A Good steward of Jesus is always looking for opportunities to find a way to share how your life has been changed for the better.

For me, I thought if I wasn’t able to be on stage anymore and uplift others in music I’d never be used by God again to be a blessing to people. Maybe like me, you can’t imagine that you could be a blessing to someone else as well.

These are lies of the devil because you can still be a good steward for the Kingdom of God. You can take whatever you are good at and enjoy and turn that into a way of opening a discussion about your love for God.
