I can tell you that my heart was in the right place. I sincerely thought I was going in the right direction and following God’s will. See friends, I want to reach more people with the gospel.

I’ve been paying the costs to run RHL for a little over two years now from my personal account without going through any other resources.

A Phlebotomist does NOT make much and it takes more money to operate a website than what you may think. However, I was heavily convicted that it was the WRONG way to go about it.

Are YOU Going the Right Direction for Your Christian Blog?

Am I Going the Right Direction for My Christian Blog?

Resounding His Love is Faith-Based, Gospel-Centered Christian blog. I want my main focus and content to exalt my Lord and Savior and to be solely used to bring Glory to God and help Encourage YOU as a born again follower of Jesus and Sister in Christ.

Why I am reinforcing what my website is a Christian blog when you can clearly tell what it is based on by the material and content?

Let me explain exactly what I mean to you.

While reflecting on the right direction, for my Christian blog I was convicted of the following verses:

Pray for Right Direction: God’s Direction for Your Christian Blog

Jesus Cleanses the Temple

The Passover of the Jews was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. In the temple, he found those who were selling oxen and sheep and pigeons, and the money-changers sitting there. And making a whip of cords, he drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and oxen. And he poured out the coins of the money-changers and overturned their tables. And he told those who sold the pigeons, “Take these things away; do not make my Father’s house a house of trade.” John 2:13-16

Follow the Holy Spirit’s Prompting on the Right Direction

I was approached not too long ago about becoming an affiliate for my Christian blog. What that means is promoting (aka…suggestions) links for the companies that you use or would recommend on your website.

I didn’t think it was a big deal to do so. The ONLY place I felt comfortable displaying it was on the sidebar of my website on my Christian blog, not within my posts or pages. It was also for a very short limited time.

What Do You Do if Doubts Creep In About the Right Direction for your Christian blog?

That being said I kept getting emails that I needed to be promoting these links within my Blog Posts and Social Media etc for things I use to operate my website…Now that in itself would NOT necessarily be a bad thing since I use their services.

My plan was to use whatever amount came from it to go towards Christ-centered giveaways and Bibles etc…

The way I looked at it was more people would come to know Jesus Christ without continuing to use whatever I could spare from my full-time job without going broke.

How Do You Choose What The Right Direction Is for a Christian Blog?

At first, I almost considered doing what I was told I should be doing with these links. Keyword…ALMOST!

But I held my ground and convictions that I would NOT place anything that isn’t faith-based and showcasing Christ within ANY of my blog posts!

For my Christian blog, my top priority is making Jesus known to those who don’t know Him as their Lord and Savior. Faith-based blogs can reach so many lost and broken for the kingdom of God!

Convictions Are Not the Same For All Individuals for their Christian blog

Friends, what convicts ME may be much different than what convicts YOU so PLEASE do NOT think I am passing judgment and throwing stones. That is NOT my intention.

FOR ME PERSONALLY, I was convicted and had to remove them. I have prayed and prayed and God’s direction over this and I truly know now why I was convicted so much.

Why This Was the Right Choice For My Christian Blog

When I write about the goodness and grace of my perfect Heavenly Father HE alone should be my focus…NOT suggestions for services that MAY or MAY NOT be faith-based services. I want to help people grow in their walk with Christ and daily sanctification.

Where I Went Wrong in Going the Right Direction for my Christian blog

I placed a few links on my website from the services I use to set up my Website. This is where I went wrong because there’s a huge difference in using services vs promoting services.

Examples of Going the Wrong Direction

  • Siteground
  • Tasty Pins
  • ConvertKit
  • MailerLite
  • Restored 316
  • Creative Market
  • Studio Press
  • Creative Market
  • SC Stockshop

Now I’m not ditching these at all because I use most of them. That being said, my Website is Gospel-Centered and I personally felt conviction in this.

I should NOT be promoting services for running a blog and at the same time sharing Jesus. Do you see the difference and my dilemma?

I write and share stories with you about how my life has been “made new” in Christ.

It just doesn’t seem right to me trying to sell you ANYTHING other than what my site is about and the most important part of who I am…A Christian.

BUT GOD…two very powerful words!

Why I know this is the right direction For My Christian Blog

Every time I would receive emails saying I need to linking their “products” NOT I would feel the Conviction of the HOLY SPIRIT saying NO and I would be reminded of John 2:13-16

Friends I have learned in my life to heed the WARNING of my convictions from the Holy Spirit.

So I will NOT be {even though I almost considered it} adding anything I feel this isn’t going to bring God glory.

As a matter of fact, I canceled and withdrew from the programs.

Moving Towards the Right Direction

Someone recently suggested to me that I should check out a Post from Arabah Joy on monetizing a Christian Blog. I found it very helpful in how and what the correct and right direction is. The following is her viewpoint…Resource Arabah Joy

Finally, He schooled my heart with a humbling truth: the worker is worthy of his/her hire. Although it seems humble to refuse payment for your labor of love (and undoubtedly sometimes it is), accepting it is WAY more humbling. It means that I embrace my own value, contribution to the Kingdom, and God-given purpose. Wow, that’s life-changing!

-Arabah Joy

And remain in the same house, eating and drinking what they provide, for the laborer deserves his wages. Do not go from house to house. Luke 10:7

For the Scripture says, “You shall not muzzle an ox when it treads out the grain,” and, “The laborer deserves his wages.” Timothy 5:18

Going the Right Direction is Honoring God

I have struggled so much in this area and I want to honor God to the best of my ability and be a good steward of the resources he’s given me.

Recently I was asked a couple of questions that put things into perspective.

  1. “Do you think it’s wrong for pastors to have a salary?”
  2. “Do you give to charities and missionaries?”
  3. “Does your Church offer, suggest, and/or sell products that will benefit people?”

I said of course not that’s silly because pastors and missionaries work hard and our bookstore supports valuable information that serves members and people in the community!

They said to me…you do as well! I never thought of Resounding His Love Blog in that way. Seriously, my Blog an online ministry? Yes, it is!”

I hope in reading this you can see where and how I messed up?

There’s a huge difference in supporting and suggesting companies versus wanting to support and offer suggestions that will draw someone to God and a closer walk with Jesus Christ in their daily sanctification.

I’ve been looking at this in the wrong way. I’m thankful for friends asking the tough questions when it’s needed to guide me in the right direction.

In Summary, I can share and link resources that I feel will benefit readers in gaining gospel progress as long as I go about it in the right way.

I finally understand why I was convicted when I was first approached this.

I was suggesting and linking resources that were not faith-based and related to anything that is God-honoring.

God showed me the difference and I’m thankful for the Holy Spirit’s prompting and conviction.

God knows me better than I know myself and knew what I needed to steer me in the right direction.
