There is one whose rash words are like sword thrusts, but the tongue of the wise brings healing. (Proverbs 12:18).
Have you ever said something out of anger that you regret? Once spoken you want to take them back right? I know I certainly have. I’m willing to make, an educated guess, that you have as well. It’s like as soon as the words, fly out of our mouths, you think, now why did I go and say that!
HELLO! CAN I HAVE A REWIND PLEASE!
Unfortunately life doesn’t work that way. Once words are spoken, they can not be taken back, no matter how much we Pray they could be. The damage has been done unfortunately.
Jesus said, “Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks” (Luke 6:45).
In other words, what’s truly in our heart, will flow out of our mouth. Whether that be good or bad.
As a follower of Jesus Christ we MUST use his example
He had a trusting heart, that produced an encouraging tongue. He had a loving heart, that produced a gracious tongue. He had a faithful heart, that produced a truthful tongue. He had a peaceful heart, that produced a reconciling tongue.
I can only speak for myself. I would much prefer, to use my tongue, to encourage and uplift others, in the same way, my Heavenly Father did.
Notice I used the word prefer. I do not always follow Christ’s example. I know I should. I know as a Christian, that’s what I’m called to do. Now ask me if I follow his example always? That would be a big NO!! Sad but True!
I am human, and I’m flawed by nature. However, that does NOT give me the excuse, to treat people poorly, and say things, I know good and well I shouldn’t.
Now here is where it gets real. Get ready to roll your pants up y’all, cause it’s gonna get deep in here real fast
Satan comes only to steal, kill and destroy. (John 10:10).
Satan thrives on us, using our tongues, in a manner, that isn’t pleasing, to the Lord. Here comes the truth. Now see where you find yourself being convicted. A critical heart, produces a critical tongue.
A self-righteous heart, produces a judgmental tongue. A bitter heart, produces a harsh tongue. An ungrateful heart, produces a grumbling tongue. Can you see your heart, in how your words flow out, in these suggestions?
I know I am guilty of all of them
It burdens my heart to admit that. But the truth will stand, when the world is on fire. If we aren’t willing, to admit these truths to ourselves, how do we ever think, we will stop letting them, control our every word.
We do NOT realize, or we flat-out do NOT care, that the power, of the words we use, can destroy. They can be the death of marriages, families, friendships, churches, reputations, and the list can go on and on. It’s in the heat of the moment, we tend to lash out, and think on what we said later.
More often than not, it’s towards someone we Love most. We’ll sit and dwell on what we spoke, and let our words fester like a blister. You already know what comes next. We start pointing fingers, at anyone and everyone but our self.
We will try to excuse our actions and behavior. You started it! It’s your fault! No ones wants to admit, they were in the wrong, in how they approached something, or handled a situation, and say I’m Sorry.
Be ye angry, and sin not, let not the sun go down upon your wrath. (Ephesians 4:26)
Friends this verse is saying to us, make things right
If you go to bed angry, it gives Satan a foothold, in your mind and heart. Have you ever heard the phrase…If you give them an inch, they’ll take a mile. Same concept here. Satan will try, to twist and turn your words.
Satan will have you believing, ALL kinds of lies, that what you spoke, was justified. We can NOT, allow that to happen. It will set you on a downward spiral, that you don’t want to be on. Trust me on that. I’ve been there done that, more times than I can count.
If you find yourself getting angry and want to lash out at another, let these scriptures speak truth to you
Write them down, if you must. Count to 10, turn away. Do what it takes, to make you be the man or woman, you know you should be. What would Jesus say and do. He is the one, we are to reflect.
1) I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak, for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned. (Matthew 12: 36-37).
2) Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. (Ephesians 4:29).
3)But now you must put aside all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your mouth. (Colossians 3:8).
4)The mouth of the righteous utters wisdom, and his tongue speaks justice. (Psalm 37:30).
5)The mouth of the righteous brings forth wisdom, but the perverse tongue will be cut off. (Proverbs 10:31).
6)The mouth of the righteous utters wisdom, and his tongue speaks justice. (Psalm 37:30).
7 Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you. (Ephesians 4:32).
Trust me Friends, I am reminding myself, of these Scriptures also. I know how hard it is, not wanting to verbally attack someone, who is coming at you full force. Satan works in those instances, more than any other time, in my opinion. He wants discord!
Satan wants friction! He doesn’t want us to Forgive the one who has wronged us! If he keeps us in separation, from those we feel have wronged us or vice versa, he is winning! Guess what! I have read the last book in the Bible.
Satan DOES NOT WIN! GOD DOES AND WE WILL, IF ONLY WE PUT OUR “TRUST IN JESUS!”
I want to leave you with one final thought. Our words can be used to wound or heal. So choose wisely. Once they are said, they can NOT be taken back.
