One of my favorite verses in the bible is the one I have listed below. Finding rest for a weary soul sounds amazing doesn’t it? In all honesty, however, I’m unable to find the rest at certain times in my life this verse clearly speaks of.
Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. Matthew 11:28-30

Allow me to unburden my heart and share something with you. What I’m confessing is real and many will say “But you are a Christian you’re not supposed to have this kind of issue…Do You?
The answer is YES. Anxiety is a real issue whether you are a born again believer or not. Surely I’m NOT the only Christian who suffers from this, am I?
I am also certain that many will cast judgment that I don’t put enough trust and faith in God to take care of me. The answer again is Yes I know God will take care of me especially when I cry out to him on bended knee.
I do have complete faith and trust in God but I’m human flawed and have a very real Disorder that I have been diagnosed with.
Is ANXIETY a lack of faith?
I want to acknowledge something upfront. Just because you suffer from any type of disease or disorder there is absolutely nothing to be ashamed of because you have it.
It does NOT make you less than, and you are NOT being punished for something you think you have done wrong and deserve it. God loves you just as you are!
However, just because we are Christians that will not make us immune to sickness, troubles, heartaches, or afflictions.
Christian help for Anxiety
See Beloved, I am a Christian a daughter of the most-high God but I have wrestled with an Anxiety Disorder the biggest part of life. I’m sure the biggest reason for this is due to the fact that I was in an abusive marriage for almost 15 years.
To this day I still suffer the effects from that as hard as I have tried to break free of it. Unfortunately, it can keep me bound and shackled at times. It will rear its ugly head to the surface in the most troublesome ways and in the darkest times.
Yes, I take medication for this. To me it’s no different than a Diabetic needing insulin for their disease it’s just a different kind of disorder!
ANXIETY CAN STRIKE WHEN I AM ___?
- Rushed and feeling overwhelmed.
- Driving and the motion of my surroundings is too much to bear due to the side effects from one of my AutoImmune Disorders.
- Worried about finances.
- Concerned for my Children and Grandchildren.
- Working and seeing the pain and suffering my Oncology and Hematology patients face.
- It can happen at any time at any moment!
Overcoming ANXIETY with God
I handle anxiety the best I can, for the most part. You see Friends this isn’t something people like to discuss. It’s easier to sweep it under the rug so to speak.
You know the old saying out of sight out of mind. However, there’s the truth about fighting anxiety that everybody should know!
EXPLAINING ANXIETY FROM A CHRISTIAN PERSPECTIVE TO OTHER CHURCH MEMBERS
We don’t want people to view us as less than or a freak show. If you don’t have to deal with anything like this I’m so thrilled for you but PLEASE show compassion to those who have to deal with these types of things.
You have no idea what it’s like unless you cope with anxiety.
You can’t cast judgment on someone simply because you can’t visually see a problem. Just remember that ALL of us are dealing with things that the other knows nothing about. So be Kind ALWAYS!
In all honesty, people with anxiety feel nothing can or will be done about it and have to learn to deal with it on their own.
Not only this but they may also think their fears are all in their head or may have done something to deserve it and/or avoid seeking help because they fear to reach out for help will be perceived as a weakness on their part.
Even Christians will NOT seek help simply because they believe anxiety is a sign of their spiritual unbelief or failures.
ANXIETY FROM A CHRISTIAN PERSPECTIVE IS HARD TO TALK WITHIN THE CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY
Why? Due to the fear that they’ll be told they are just lacking faith and trust in God. I have researched Anxiety Disorders, and I had no idea there were so many wide-ranged areas of this disease.
I personally have been diagnosed with GAD, which is Generalized Anxiety Disorder.
Anxiety DESCRIPTION IS BELOW:
If you have been to my house or have been in my Lab Bay at work I have a small touch of OCD also and is shown by how I have ___?
Objects facing the same direction. I just call it being organized. I know someone personally who has PTSD due to serving our Country.
To fathom the horror they must have seen and faced and still deal with after they return home to their families must be a challenge.
PTSD, in my opinion, would be the most difficult to live with and would be extremely challenging. Please show them the utmost RESPECT, not Condemnation or judgment.
Here’s a list of anxiety disorders that are typically short term:
ACUTE STRESS DISORDER
Diagnosed when anxiety symptoms occur immediately following trauma but are short-lived:
- Adjustment disorder with anxious features – diagnosed when a person develops anxiety symptoms in relation to a major life-changing event – like getting married or moving to another city. Symptoms generally start within three months of the stressful event and occur for six months or less.
- Substance-induced anxiety disorder – generally resolves when the substance is discontinued or when withdrawal from the substance is over.
The following is A LIST OF ANXIETY DISORDERS THAT ARE TYPICALLY long TERM:
Fear of being in a public place where escape would be embarrassing or difficult. This is particularly prevalent when a person fears they may have a panic attack.
ANXIETY DUE TO A GENERAL MEDICAL CONDITION
This type of anxiety disorder can be short- or long-term depending on the medical condition. Anxiety often develops in relation to illnesses like heart conditions.
GENERALIZED ANXIETY DISORDER (GAD)
Anxiety symptoms occur in multiple environments and due to multiple objects or situations. Anxiety symptoms may not have a known cause.
OBSESSIVE-COMPULSIVE DISORDER (OCD)
Anxiety symptoms are in the form of intrusive, obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviors (or mental acts).
OCD is considered a chronic type of anxiety disorder.
Consists of severe, immediate anxiety symptoms (a panic attack) due to a variety of causes, as well as the worry over having another panic attack.
POST-TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER (PTSD)
Anxiety symptoms can occur after trauma and are long term in nature.
Anxiety symptoms occur in social or performance situations and stem from the fear of being humiliated or embarrassed.
SPECIFIC PHOBIA (ALSO KNOWN AS A SIMPLE PHOBIA)
Anxiety symptoms occur around a specific object or situation which results in avoidance. I have listed the different kinds of anxiety disorders above, but I also wanted to give you scriptures below to meditate on that will hopefully help you the same way they help me.
Trust me, sweet friend, I know how difficult it can be at times to cast your cares, troubles, and anxiety, over to God.
Christian help for Anxiety
In all honesty, as a Christian, the best thing you can do is give your anxiety to God.
At its best, anxiety distracts us from our relationship with God and the truth that He is “Lord of heaven and earth.” At its worst, anxiety is a crippling disease, taking over our minds and plunging our thoughts into darkness.-Billy Graham
Overcoming anxiety with god
The following scripture is my lifeline for overcoming anxiety.
Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28.
At that time Jesus declared, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to little children. Matthew 11:25
Ask for Prayer
It’s important for not only Christians to understand, but every human being, anxiety changes us. It changes our perception and challenges physically.
We can ask our brothers and sisters in Christ and/or our Lifegroup members and pastors to simply say a prayer for us. Sweet friend, it is more than ok to ask for help.
THE GOSPEL TRUTH ANCHORS US
For those of us coping with anxiety, it can feel as though our feelings and thoughts are actively taking over every fiber of our being.
At the same time, we also know our feelings cannot be trusted. While our feelings try to detour us, the gospel anchors us and we know it’s our lifeline.
TAKE REFUGE AND REST IN GOD
Anxiety more often than not will creep up when we least expect it. It happens when we try to do too much all at once.
When we bite off more than we can chew so to speak, our bodies shut down in ways we don’t expect. God didn’t design us to go 24-7.
We are to “be still” which means to rest in God’s presence. We are to listen to what our bodies need.
Rest, exercise, a good bedtime routine, getting eight hours of sleep, and consume healing foods.

For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God and take every thought captive to obey Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:3-5
IN CONCLUSION ON ANXIETY FROM A CHRISTIAN PERSPECTIVE
Remember this above all else. In Christ, we can overcome any obstacle set before us with his strength not our own. When Satan is deceiving you of this truth don’t listen to lies of the Devil!
Precious friend, you and I are loved and cherished by the creator of the Universe and we can always depend on him to be there for us in our time of need.
Hope in Christ is our only hope in today’s world. If I can help you in any way please do not hesitate to comment or message me and I will take your prayer before the throne of Grace. Remember when anxiety attacks give it to God.
Sweet friend, we must learn to have patience in waiting for God’s timing to move on our behalf. I will pray for you and you can pray for me too. Until we are called home to Glory lean on God to see you through the trials of life.
As hard as it may seem at times we learn and grow when we cast our anxieties over to him. Trust me, this is a reminder for me too.
