Overcoming Anxiety | 20 Best Verses To Help With Anxiety

Overcoming Anxiety with God

Some of my favorite verses in the bible are the ones I have listed below. Finding rest for a weary soul sounds impressive, doesn’t it? In all honesty, however, in the following verses, I can’t find the rest at certain times in my life.

Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28

Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Matthew 11:29

For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light. Matthew 11:30

Overcoming Anxiety from a Christian Perspective

Overcoming Anxiety With God

Allow me to unburden my heart and share something with you. What I’m confessing is real and many will say “But you are a Christian you’re not supposed to have this kind of issue…Do You?

The answer is YES. Anxiety is a real issue whether you are a born-again believer or not. Surely I’m NOT the only Christian who suffers from this, am I?

I am also certain that many will judge me for not having enough trust and faith in God to take care of me. The answer again is yes. I know God will take care of me, especially when I cry out to him on bended knee.

I do have complete faith and trust in God, but I’m human and flawed and have a very real Disorder that I have been diagnosed with.

Is Anxiety a lack of faith?

I want to acknowledge something upfront. Just because you suffer from any type of disease or disorder, there is absolutely nothing to be ashamed of because you have it.

It does NOT make you less than others; you are NOT being punished for something you think you have done wrong and deserve. God loves you just as you are!

However, just because we are Christians, that will not make us immune to sickness, troubles, heartaches, or afflictions. Now, Satan lies and tries to deceive us

Christian Help For Anxiety

See Beloved, I am a Christian, a daughter of the most high God, but I have wrestled with an Anxiety Disorder for the biggest part of my life. I’m sure the biggest reason for this is that I was in an abusive marriage for almost 15 years.

To this day, I still suffer the effects of that as hard as I have tried to break free of it. Unfortunately, it can keep me bound and shackled at times. It will rear its ugly head to the surface in the most troublesome ways and in the darkest times.

Yes, I take medication for this. It’s no different than a Diabetic needing insulin for their disease. It’s just a different kind of disorder!

ANXIETY CAN STRIKE WHEN I AM ___?

  1. Rushed and feeling overwhelmed.
  2. Driving and the motion of my surroundings are too much to bear due to the side effects of one of my AutoImmune Disorders.
  3. Worried about finances.
  4. Concerned for my Children and Grandchildren.
  5. Working and seeing the pain and suffering my Oncology and Hematology patients face.
  6. It can happen any time at any moment!

I handle anxiety the best I can, for the most part. You see, Friends, this isn’t something people like to discuss. It’s easier to sweep it under the rug, so to speak.

You know the old saying out of sight, out of mind. However, there is a truth about fighting anxiety that everybody should know!

How Do You Explain Overcoming Anxiety With Other Church Members?

You don’t want people to view you as less than or a freak show. If you don’t have to deal with anything like this, I’m so thrilled for you, but please show compassion to those who do.

You have no idea what it’s like unless you cope with anxiety.

You can’t judge someone simply because you can’t visually see a problem. Just remember that all of us are dealing with things that the other knows nothing about. So be kind always!

Why Do Christians Not Talk About Their Struggle with Anxiety?

In all honesty, people with anxiety feel nothing can or will be done about it and have to learn to deal with it on their own.

Not only this, but they may also think their fears are all in their head or may have done something to deserve them and/or avoid seeking help because they fear reaching out for help will be perceived as a weakness on their part.

Even Christians will NOT seek help simply because they believe anxiety is a sign of their spiritual unbelief or failures.

Why Is It Hard To Talk About Anxiety In A Christian Community?

Why? Due to the fear that they’ll be told they are just lacking faith and trust in God. I have researched Anxiety Disorders, and I had no idea there were so many wide-ranged areas of this disease.

I have been diagnosed with GAD, which is Generalized Anxiety Disorder.

What Is The Definition Of Anxiety?

If you have been to my house or have been in my Lab Bay at work, I have a small touch of OCD also, and this is shown by how I have ___?

Objects facing the same direction. I call it being organized. I know someone personally who has PTSD due to serving our Country.

Facing the horror, they must have seen and faced and still deal with after returning home to their families must be a challenge.

PTSD, in my opinion, would be the most difficult to live with and would be extremely challenging. Please show them the utmost RESPECT, not Condemnation or judgment.

Short Term Anxiety Disorders

Acute Stress Disorder

Diagnosed when anxiety symptoms occur immediately following trauma but are short-lived:

  1. Adjustment disorder with anxious features – diagnosed when a person develops anxiety symptoms about a major life-changing event – like getting married or moving to another city. Symptoms generally start within three months of the stressful event and occur for six months or less.

Overcoming Anxiety With God By Memorizing Scriptures

The following scriptures are my lifeline for overcoming anxiety.

Come to me, all who labor and are heavily laden, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28.

At that time Jesus declared, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to little children. Matthew 11:25

Ask for Prayer

Are you feeling anxious? If so, the beating anxiety worksheets was designed with you in mind. This is the help you need to overcome anxiety.

Not only do Christians need to understand, but for every human being, anxiety changes us. It changes our perception and challenges us physically.

You can ask our brothers and sisters in Christ and/or our Lifegroup members and pastors to simply say a prayer for us. Sweet friend, it is more than ok to ask for help.

The Gospel Truth Anchors You

For those coping with anxiety, it can feel as though your feelings and thoughts are actively taking over every fiber of your being.

At the same time, you also know your feelings cannot be trusted. While your feelings try to detour you, the gospel anchors you; you know it’s your lifeline.

Take Refuge And Rest In God

Anxiety, more often than not, will creep up when you least expect it. It happens when you try to do too much all at once.

When you bite off more than you can chew, so to speak, your bodies shut down in ways you don’t expect. God didn’t design you to go 24-7.

You are to “be still,” which means resting in God’s presence. You are to listen to what your bodies need.

Rest, exercise, have a good bedtime routine, get eight hours of sleep, and consume healing foods.

Precious friend, you are loved and cherished by the creator of the Universe, and you can always depend on him to be there for you in your time of need.

Hope in Christ is your only hope in today’s world. If I can help you in any way, please do not hesitate to comment or message me. I will take your prayer before the throne of Grace. Remember, when you have anxiety attacks, give it to God.

You must learn to have patience in waiting for God’s timing to move on your behalf. I will pray for you, and you can pray for me too. Until we are called home to Glory, we lean on God to see us through the trials of life.

As hard as it may seem, we sometimes learn and grow when we cast our anxieties over to him. Trust me, this is a reminder for me, too.

Your Turn

Do you understand now how overcoming anxiety from a more grateful perspective is so important? Remember this above all else. In Christ, you can overcome any obstacle set before you with his strength, not your own. When Satan is deceiving you of this truth, don’t listen to the lies of the Devil!
