Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. (Ephesians 6:11-16).
It can be so easy to play the “if only” game. “If only” I dressed this way, then I would fit in. “If only” I acted and talked a certain way, then others would want to be my friend. “If only” I would do——, then I can compete with ——?
All during my school years, I never wanted to stand out.
I was super shy and didn’t say much to be honest.
When I go home even to this day, to Kentucky to visit my family, if I run into someone I knew years ago, I hear this…”You were the girl who never spoke aren’t you?”
Yep, that would be me!
All joking aside, I’d rather be remembered for being quiet, than some much worse thing wouldn’t you?
Even today I’m still that quiet in the shell girl!
Unless the subject of ANYTHING pertaining to Faith in God, then look out Y’all, cause this Southern Bell from North Carolina, can get “FIRED UP!”
Sadly, in today’s world, we’re so consumed, wanting the approval of other people, to define our self-worth.
We get caught up in all the lies being forced in our minds such as…
- You are not good enough
- You will never be loved
- You are rejected
- You are shameful
- You are nothing but trouble
- You will always be alone
- You are ugly and weak
- You will never be forgiven
- You do not deserve grace
- You are not worthy of my attention
I want you to understand that I have NO self-esteem at all!
It comes from years of hearing negative things about myself, over and over again.
I can give you some specific examples…
Can’t you dress another way?
You need to show some skin!
Why would I want a woman, no other man will even look at!
Why do you have to be such a Debbie downer and such a goody-goody?
I want to have some fun!
Do NOT be the way you are, when I want you to be this way!
I don’t know about you, but after hearing these things repeatedly, you start believing them about yourself?
Do you find then that you want to separate yourself, from anything or anyone?
All you want at that point is to find someone who will listen and understand, but you’re afraid of the fear and rejection!
Satan just roams around looking for a weak spot within us, to pounce and take full advantage of our doubts.
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world. (1 Peter 5:8-9).
Satan is powerful and do NOT let anyone tell you that he isn’t.
But he is Predictable. He preys on our vulnerabilities.
For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. (1 John 2:16).
Friends, God is more concerned about our soul!
We aren’t made to fit in!
We are to be set apart.
But God does understand. Not that we are adequate in ourselves to consider anything as coming from ourselves, but our adequacy is from God. (2 Corinthians 3:5).
This is the truth!
Hear and understand this Y’all!
We will NEVER be good enough, in our own merit?
WE NEED JESUS!
Beloved, our worth and meaning can ONLY be found in him.
It is written: There is none righteous, no, not one. (Romans 3:10).
But we are all like an unclean thing, And all our righteousness are like filthy rags; We all fade as a leaf, And our iniquities, like the wind, Have taken us away. (Isaiah 64:6).
But we have hope
Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. (Romans 15:13).
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God’s righteousness because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins. (Romans 3:23-25).
Satan is the father of lies, and he wants to feed your vulnerabilities with fear.
So fight him with these words in the song by Johnny Diaz
Take a look at the devil right square in the eye
And tell him I have believed you for the very last time
Devil, I know you’ve been lying to me
You do not define me
Cause all of your power has been swept away
Your threats are as empty as Jesus’ grave
So devil, go get behind me
You do not define me
One name above ALL names “defines us” as born-again followers…Jesus Christ
One Name above all names
Defines who I am, allow me to say that
I’ve got the victory
Over the enemy
One God above all gods
Who knows who I am, and gives what I’ve got and
I’ve got authority
To make the devil flee
I still have insecurities when it comes to self-esteem, but I have learned to hang on to the very Promises of my savior.
I am a child of God and I have nothing to prove and nothing to lose.
God defines my worth and holds me safely and securely in His love.
I am no more or less worthy than Christ sees me.
By the grace of God, I am what I am. (1 Corinthians 15:10).
Your Sister in Christ
Hey Friends. Thank you for taking time out of your day, to spend a few moments in mine. As a follower of Jesus Christ, it’s important to me to share the gospel with you. I write about my ups and downs, my struggles and insecurities, but above all else, I share how God brings me through it all. Let’s continue our walk with Christ together.
