I love the reminder in God’s word about how we aren’t to be anxious about ANYTHING, don’t you sweet friend? God is our refuge and strength! To live that verse, in reality, can be rather hard when you’re in long seasons of difficulties, isn’t it? Anxiety can wreak havoc on your mind and soul!
When you have your back against the wall, and the road before you seems unending, it can take its toll on you. That being said, this is when you have to really be in God’s word and trust him wholeheartedly. God is our refuge and strength!
I don’t want to repeat the story of my health issues, but if you’ve not checked out the challenges of autoimmune diseases you can do that when you have time.
How GOD IS OUR REFUGE AND STRENGTH
Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. Proverbs 3:5
What is the Biblical meaning of Refuge?
To take refuge is to find a safe place. You might take refuge under a bridge in a hail storm, or in a basement during a tornado. Yes, we’re to use our head in this scenario. That being said, however, as a disciple of Christ we know God is our refuge and strength is found in Him alone
Refuge comes from a French word meaning “to flee,” and, in most cases, a refuge is a place to flee to in order to get away from people or places that are unsafe. Do you see how God is our refuge and strength?
How Do we take rufuge and strength in God?
God longs to hear from His Children! God also wants you and I to bear our hearts before Him and lay our requests at His feet, and above all else…trust him knowing completely God is our refuge and strength!
When we take refuge in something physical, we are trusting it will take care of and make us feel safe and secure. When we take refuge in God, we are offering that trust to him instead.
Seek Shelter in God’s Strength and Character
I’m naming today’s Appointment DREADED DOOMSDAY! I know what you’re thinking please pick another name! See sweet friend, I have an appointment to see a surgeon today, Monday, October 16, 2017, for my foot.
Long story short is I’ve been receiving treatment for this issue for over a year with no success of healing. If anything it’s gotten worse! That alone can shake your faith. I was told they believe it’s a form of a Verrucous Carcinoma.
GOD IS OUR FORTRESS
I work in an Oncology Office and I see first hand these kinds of issues and know what to look for. When you receive treatment after treatment with no change whatsoever it can make you somewhat weary and discouraged.
I have been told by two different doctors they have done ALL they know to do for me! The appointment Monday will be the third doctor for this same issue. To say it’s frustrating and painful is putting it mildly. Every time I take a step, it rubs that area.
For the past couple of weeks, this weekend being the worse, Satan has waged a war in my mind. He has tried to make me doubt the very goodness of God. How can God be our refuge and our strength when we go through these things?
In Christ, we have victory over Satan’s lies
Know this above all else sweet friend, we can always trust that God has our back no matter the circumstances surrounding us. Remember, Jesus defeated Sin, death and the grave and we have victory in Him!
That being said, also be aware that the lies of the devil will bombard us because we are living a life to glorify God! Satan tried to deceive Jesus and we are fooling ourselves if we don’t think he will try the same tricks on us!
SATAN WILL TRY TO DECEIVE US
Satan’s Mind Games over my health issues.
- If your God Loves you so much, why isn’t he making this go away?
- God must NOT Love you enough!
- If your God is so good, why is he allowing you to remain in pain?
- He must NOT care about you!
- Does God realize how painful this procedure is going to be on you?
- God doesn’t love or care about you!
- You should just give up!
My life may not be perfect but I’m in a much better place now than what I was EVER in as a Non-Christian! My God LOVES AND CARES for me and will ALWAYS be there for me!
No matter what health issues lie in front of me, my God will ALWAYS be there for me! I may not understand God’s ways but his ways are far better than mine!
In what way is God our refuge?
Taking refuge is simply a place of safety and shelter where we are protected from danger. Another illustration of refuge is seeking a shelter in which we take cover during a storm.
In Old Testament times a cleft in the rocks or cave was a good refuge. In modern times, we seek shelter underground.
A good refuge provides protection for the vulnerable and for those who seeking peace. That is exactly the kind of refuge that God is to those who trust in Him as Lord and His Son, Jesus Christ who is our shelter.
