This year May 12, 2023, is going to be double hard for me. Sunday is Mother’s Day which makes me think of the recent loss of my Mama. Even more recent is the loss of my son, Mark. His birthday is May 12, 1986, and he passed away on February 8, 2023. Mark was only 36 years old.

As born-again followers of Jesus Christ, it’s impossible to understand God’s plan from a human point of view. Also, faith doesn’t mean you or I will not suffer or feel pain on this side of eternity.

I felt pain like no other recently. My son Mark was our prodigal child who never found his way back home. We looked and looked for him but it was as if he fell off the face of the earth. I always knew I’d get “THE CALL” a Mother never wants.

My phone rang on February 9, 2023, from the Colorado Medical Examiner’s Office. She asked me if I knew Mark Shumate and I said Yes I’m His Mother. She proceeds to tell me all the details that I’m keeping private to honor His memory.

Thank God our prayers were answered and it gives us hope. Special Thanks to Network Coffee House for being there for my Son when He needed it the most. This network was the answer to our prayers and showed Him Godly friendship which is what we prayed for.
